”LA SIERPE”. The SeaSnake. This bit was based on a very old pattern from the late 1800s that has fascinated me, so I wanted to bring it to life again. I was inspired by the stories I heard growing up in Santa Barbara about the ocean, mermaids, mythical creatures and sea serpents that haunted the waters of Old California. This bit is also an homage to Calle Sierpe, the legendary street of shops and merchants in the most ancient and walled part of the city of Sevilla, Spain — the last port the conquistadors saw before they departed for the New World and what we now know as California.
