Antique & Vintage Spurs

Sterling silver mounted California style spurs by Jim Kress

Sterling silver mounted California style spurs by Jim Kress

$1,050.00

An outstanding set of California style spurs by Idaho maker Jim Kress. These are some of the finest examples of California spurs by a modern maker that I’ve ever seen. The work and details are simply immaculate. To my knowledge there are very few examples outside of private collections of his work, attesting to the collectibility of his work. These are the only pair of Jim Kress spurs available on the open market today. Included with the spurs are vintage leather straps with sterling silver conchos.

More information about Jim along with a short bio:

Jim has worked hard to forge a successful career making bits and spurs since he became disabled while he was a crew chief on P-15 fighter planes in the Air Force in Arizona. After his discharge he attended college and obtained a degree in engineering. He worked for several years with the U. S. Postal Service until a serious illness in 1989 forced him to seek a new career.

In 1990 he attended the Miller Bit and Spur School, then set up a shop in the basement of his house and made bits and spurs and rodeo buckles as well as other silver items. In 1992 he returned to the Miller school for additional training, and became close to Elmer Miller who constantly encouraged him. Jim enjoys the challenge of taking damaged bits and spurs and restoring them to their original condition, as well as building spurs and bits based on his own ideas that follow designs of the old west tradition.” excerpted from the book Bits & Spurs: Motifs, Techniques and Modern Makers by Ned & Jody Martin.
