Exquisite Vintage Santa Barbara spade bit by Bud & Jack Morris - marked MORRIS BITS

Enhance your bit and spur collection with this exquisite vintage traditional California spade bit from a family of master bitmakers. This full sterling silver overlay Santa Barbara spade bit with an outstanding Spanish spade mouthpiece was made by Willard (Bud) Morris and his son Jack Morris. Stamped MORRIS BITS. Bud (1895-1959) and Jack (1920-1966) Morris were a father and son team who opened their own shop in 1946. Bud learned bit and spur making by working at Keyston Brothers of San Francisco and Jack learned a lot about bitmaking while working at Visalia Saddlery. Bud's favorite bit to make was a Santa Barbara spade with full silver overlay, just like this one. Bud and Jack established San Joaquin Manufacturing Company in Oakdale, California in 1945. This bit dates to the late 1940s. This is only the second MORRIS bit I've come across in 15 years of collecting. Mouthpiece has the perfect amount of movement and signal and measures 5 1/4" wide. Clearly marked "MORRIS BITS" inside the cheekpiece. PM me for info if you're interested in purchasing this rare
