Antique 1910-1920 Storm Pattern Navajo Double Saddle Blanket

Antique 1910-1920 Storm Pattern Navajo Double Saddle Blanket

$450.00

This fantastic antique storm pattern Navajo saddle blanket is very close to one in the 1911 J.B. Moore Trading Post catalog. Symbols include a Navajo hogan in the center, or the center of the universe. Corner squares representing the four Sacred Mountains of the Navajo, as well as designs fot the four winds, lighting bolts, water bugs or pinion beetles. Above and below the water bugs are Whirling Logs which represent circular motion by the bent ends. Whirling Logs are a sacred symbol used in Navajo religious ceremonies, sand paintings, and were incorporated into weavings around the 1880s. Measures: 61” x 30.” A couple of thread bare spots as can be seen and some light edge wear.
