An early example of Luis Ortega’s braiding, this working headstall features an ornate series of braided strands to adjust to each horse it was used on. There is also a braided rawhide fiador. This headstall is in excellent condition and retains its shape and suppleness. This came out of an old Santa Barbara estate in Luis’ hometown. I acquired this headstall with a group of bridles that had several other items braided by Ortega. There is an old clip attached to the browband that reads “Made by Luis Ortega, E. Slater Col., Santa Barbara, CA.”
