**Eduardo Grijalva EG Vintage Silver Overlaid Western Spurs circa 1940s**

Beautiful matched set of single mounted spurs by Eduardo Grijalva. These appear to be unused and are in beautiful shape. These were part of the Ron Gillette collection; Ron was a noted collector of early Grijalva bits and spurs. Unmarked, but most definitely his work, these spurs were one of Grijalva’s early endeavors when he used silver collected from utensil sets. For reference, they bear the exact same engraving on the shanks as the marked pair of EG* spurs shown in comparison in the fourth, fifth and sixth photos. Classic circle punch designs and rocker etched border designs on silver overlay. Measurements: Overall x 1/2” wide x 1-1/2” shanks with 1-1/2” rowels with a 3” heel opening. A very attractive pair of spurs.

Eduardo Grijalva, Sr. began building bits and spurs in his rustic, open air shop in Magadalena, Mexico during 1944. By this time he had been repairing bits and making conchos for nearly 10 years. Before coming to Magdalena, Eduardo was also building crude bits on a part time basis using Mexican patterns.

These early endeavors were inlaid with silver acquired from discarded eating utensils. Noted authority on the history of the California Vaquero, Arnold Rojas, made Eduardo’s acquaintance in 1949. From that time on, Eduardo’s work focused on the style of bits traditionally preferred by California horsemen.
