(SOLD) Jose M Tapia (1831-1902) Inlaid California Spurs
Extremely scarce and exquisite Jose M Tapia, 19th century, silver inlaid and filigreed Southern California spurs.
Featuring Jose Tapia’s trademark pinched bird’s head shanks, these rare 19th century silver inlaid Southern California spurs have cut-out filigree ovals on the heelbands, raised silver conchos, line iron chasing on the top alternating with inlaid silver stripes, chap guards, filigreed outer shanks, and 2” 10-point rowels. Very good condition, c 1870s. These spectacular spurs are the counterparts to a pair of Jose Tapia spurs that sold at High Noon Auction in 2012 for $6000. They were made on the same blanks and also exhibit a distinctive circle punch made by the same tool on both pairs. See photos for comparison. Asking 3500 for this extremely rare piece of California vaquero history.
