Antique Mexican spurs with double mounted silver inlay and original antique leather and piteado straps

Antique Mexican spurs with double mounted silver inlay and original antique leather and piteado straps

$895.00

This is a rare and unique set of large Mexican charro style silver spurs made circa early 1900s.  They are from a historical Southern California collection of bits and spurs that contained some extremely important pieces of Spanish colonial items, including a pair of spurs that were given to Jose Antonio Yorba, a Spanish soldier with the Portola party which arrived in California in 1769. Silver inlaid and engraved throughout with a variety of motifs including an extremely fine herringbone pattern on one side and a silver fish scale design on the other.  These exquisite spurs feature large swinging buttons with inlaid silver geometric designs.  The antique spur leathers are marked with the initials of the owner, RSS which is embroidered with string made from traditional fiber of a cactus called “piteado”.  Traces of the original red and black wool that surrounded the buttons remain.

This pair is in exquisite condition with a nice patina indicative of it’s age.
