A wonderful example of a traditional California spade bit.  This one was made by the Hernandez family of San Jose, California, dating to the early 1900s.  In the center of each cheek there is a large sunburst with radiating rays.  This is such a unique design. This antique California spade bit is in very nice condition commensurate to its age and boasts beautiful silver inlay adorned with Hernandez silver engraving.  There is a very old cowboy modification with the braces brazed to the inside of the cheeks.
